Special Educational Needs

Our Special Educational Needs Department is led by our dedicated Learning Support Co-ordinator (SENCo) and Senior Teacher Mrs Lynn Kerr.

In September 2020, Mrs Kerr received a Pearson Silver Award for Excellence in Special Needs Education.

Mrs Kerr is devoted to ensuring that the learning experience for all pupils with SEN is inclusive and that barriers to learning are minimised. She’s a member of the British Psychological Association and holds a Certificate of Competence in Psychometric Testing, Assessment and Access Arrangements, and has completed a Masters of Education with SEN through Ulster University.

We want all pupils to make continual progress regardless of their individual needs during their time at Glengormley High School. So there is a strong focus on pupil strengths, and partnerships with parents are also a key part of the support network.

  • We offer the only Post Primary Auditory-Oral Learning Support Centre in Northern Ireland, led by Mrs Anne Penny, who is a qualified Teacher of the Deaf.
  •  In addition to this we have an Autism Specific Learning Support Class, led by our specialist teacher Ms Margareta Farndell.
If you would like to discuss SEN provision for your child or have any questions about the SEN department please, email Mrs Kerr at lkerr356@c2ken.net
Regardless of ability, the school will nurture every pupil to reach their potential and help them to be equipped to face our changing world.

At the heart of Glengormley High School is the desire to see young people thrive with one another, because of one another.
