Celebrating Young Enterprise Success

This morning in assembly we celebrated with AVP Mr McNabb our young people who completed a Young Enterprise Personal Economics Programme.

In completing the programme they thought about future careers, explored interview techniques, spending habits, banking trends, money protection and managing credit and debt.

Well done to everyone who completed the programme and thanks to Mr Coey for facilitating this opportunity.

The University Roadshow visits GHS Year 13 Students

The University Roadshow visited our Year 13 students today to showcase up to date information about the wide variety of third level opportunities available to them.

It provided useful information for all students intending to apply to universities in: England, Scotland, Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Europe.  This was an opportunity for our students to speak to and gather information from representatives from the 9 Universities that attended.

After a short 20 minute presentation to the students covering all aspects of applying to university which covered the application system UCAS, students then had the opportunity to go around each of the university stands and speak to the exhibiters present about their course of interest.

Year 12 and 13 Interview Success Workshops

On Monday the 5th of February Year 12 students engaged in an Interview Success Workshop to help them understand and develop the key skills they need to go forward into work.  The morning was fun,  interactive and taught students to:

  • Know the different types of interview that exist and their purpose
  • Be able to identify ways to research and prepare effectively beforehand
  • Practice simulated interviews using the STAR model to answer questions.

Sixth Form Pupils attend PSNI Roadsafe Roadshow

Our Sixth form students attended the PSNI Roadsafe Roadshow which was a hard hitting look into the dangers of driving recklessly or driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Our students were taken through the reality of an actual road traffic accident from 2017 which proved fatal for one passenger and life changing for the driver who has to live with the consequences of driving recklessly. This was extremely useful given the statistics which show that young drivers are responsible for most deaths on the road.

The session involved the first responder PSNI traffic officer, the paramedic who arrived on the scene and a member of the Fire Service who was required to provide support at the horrific accident.

The Roadshow dealt with the reality of a road traffic collision: real trauma; real pain; and the real consequences of making the wrong decision behind the wheel of a car.

The Roadshow showed the impact on health, career now or in the future, insurance, family, friends and the community.

We urge all our students and school community to make the right choices as drivers and as passengers. Stay Safe!
