Glentoran Womens side won the Women’s Challenge Cup in a 2-1 with a strong Glengormley High contingent bringing the cup home for the Glens. GHS pupil Aimee-Lee Peachey had a starring role and past pupil Danielle Maxwell also featured to bring the victory. We had former GHS teacher Miss Suzie Baxter as part of the squad and Coach Gail Redmond is a past pupil also so there is a strong GHS presence in the team. Check out the match report and well done to all involved!
This week in Science Shack our budding scientists had great fun making straw rockets and then launching bottle rockets outside.
Science Shack is up and running again for the new school year. This club for Years 8-10 spent the first session making lots of lovely, fluffy slime. Come along next week to make straw rockets.
Congratulations to our Year 10 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh group who have successfully completed the qualifying expedition. All pupils performed admirably navigating from Ballintoy to Dunluce Castle over 2 days. The 24km scenic journey took the past 3 harbours, 2 castles and 1 world heritage site. The pupils camped in a field overlooking the sea where they all pitched their own tents and cooked their own food. Each pupil was a credit to the school and will hopefully continue on to Silver.
On Fri 15th June we had a Staff Coffee Morning to raise money for The Child Brain Injury Trust & The Neuro Surgical Unit, in aid of a Year 11 pupil Cameron Taggart who is currently still in hospital suffering with a Brain Injury following a serious road accident. We would like to thank everyone for their efforts & the FANTASTIC amount raised of £385.45. #ghsfamily
Congratulations to Daina Cardwell who at the English Wrestling Championship in Derbyshire over the weekend came 2nd in the 64kg Class. #aspiretosucceed #learningwithoutlimits
10 pupils from Year 10 just successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Practice Expedition. These pupils headed off early on Saturday morning and navigated their way around Ballypatrick Forest before heading to Watertop Open Farm to camp. At the farm they had the opportunity to see rabbits, puppies, a llama and more. The pupils cooked their own food for the evening, particularly popular were super noodles and beans. On the Sunday they headed off again after a good night’s sleep to complete their journey, visiting a vanishing lake along the way. All pupils performed exemplarily throughout the weekend and can now look forward to their qualifying expedition along the north coast in June.
